[Political tracts], [early 17th century].

Manuscript, in several hands, of a collection of essays on points of law and political speeches. The manuscript begins with an exposition on the commission for Justices of the Peace, followed by a collection of cases which address the crimes of high treason, petty treason, murder, felony, and robbery. These items are followed by a collection of primarily Parliamentary speeches, including five speeches by Sir Francis Bacon, Viscount St. Albans addressed to, among others, Sir John Denham on Denham's receiving his patent to succed as one of the Barons of the Exchequer; Sir William Jones on his appointment as Chief Justice of the King's Bench in Ireland; and Queen Elizabeth I exhorting her to marriage; and two speeches by Sir Nicholas Bacon.
